What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is the insertion of extremely fine needles to balance the body’s systems and restore health.

Chinese Medicine theories, an understanding of health that developed for over 2000 years, are the foundation of acupuncture.

The physical, emotional, and mental aspects of life are seen as interdependent in this view, and it is central to making a diagnosis and treatment plan.

The focus is on the whole individual rather than a particular sign or symptom in isolation, so this means when treating headache, for example, an acupuncturist may want to understand about any problems with digestion because this will change the diagnosis and the selection of acupuncture points.

Each person is a unique individual, so treatments will vary from person to person. Even the same person will feel differently each day, so treatments will also change from session to session.

Acupuncture often works well together with other treatments, like Cupping, Tuina Massage, and Herbal Medicine.

Evidence shows that Acupuncture is safe and effective, and it is an excellent compliment to most standard medical treatments when performed by a competent practitioner.
